Our Board

Dear Reader,

In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, Civic Consulting Alliance’s staff and Board pledged to dig deep and examine how we could meet this challenging, transformative moment and become a more equity-focused and inclusive organization – both in our internal operations and our client projects. Though there is more work to be done, this 2022 Impact Report is a reflection of that commitment.

The examples highlighted in this report are only a small sample of the work that Civic Consulting Alliance has undertaken to support its mission of making the Chicago region a great place for everyone to live in and work.

Civic Consulting Alliance’s impact is made possible by a team of strong leaders and dedicated staff. Rebekah Scheinfeld stepped into the CEO role in the early days of the pandemic, and has led the organization with the heart and grit needed to support her team as they continue to take on projects that will advance an equitable recovery for the Chicago region. The ongoing work by our Board’s Nominating and Governance Committee, as well as our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, continues to uplift talented leaders in support of our mission.

I am energized by the momentum of our close affiliate the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club and its new President, Derek R.B. Douglas. Derek’s extensive background in the public and private sectors provides valuable advisory support as a member of our Board. We also celebrate that outgoing President Kelly Welsh will remain actively engaged on our Board.

Civic Consulting Alliance is funded by philanthropy, which drives our ability to harness resources that strengthen our region’s civic infrastructure. Our Board – led by our Development Committee – continues to support Civic Consulting Alliance from a place of strength: for the second consecutive year, 100% of our Board members made a personal philanthropic contribution to the organization. My fellow Board members continue to step up when asked and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to building a sustainable organization.

These personal investments and contributions are multiplied by Civic Consulting Alliance’s vast network of partners who have taken up our call to action to get big things done.  For every dollar we invest in staff, we provide triple in pro bono services to our clients. Together, we invested $13.4 million in the Chicago region in Fiscal Year 2022.

As we look at the year ahead, we acknowledge that there are no easy solutions to the immense challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis. However, we are in a moment that provides unprecedented opportunities to invest in remaking our region to be more just, equitable, and resilient. Together, Civic Consulting Alliance’s staff, Board, Advisory Council, pro bono partners, funders, clients, and other stakeholders can continue the work to advance a vision where everyone has opportunities to succeed. Thank you to those who have collaborated with us this year, and those who will join us in our future work. We look forward to our continued growth and partnership in the years to come.
